19 BestBuy.com shopping hacks that save you money

Best Buy is known for their focus on consumer electronics, but lately they've been expanding their catalog. You can now find things like mattresses, toys and furniture at Best Buy.

In this article we're gonna share 19 shopping tips to use when buying at Best Buy.

Ready?

Let's get started!

1. Take part in the My Best Buy loyalty program

Becoming part of the My Best Buy loyalty program has a lot of benefits that come along with it. To start, for every $250 you spend at Best Buy, you get $5 back in certificates. You can then redeem these rewards both at a physical Best Buy or online at BestBuy.com.

On top of that you also get free shipping on BestBuy orders of $25 or more, exclusive savings with special offers only for My Best Buy members and much more.

You can read more about becoming a member of My Best Buy here.

2. Do your research online first!

When you go to a Best Buy store, and you have an idea what you're going to buy, it helps to do some research online first.

The Best Buy clerks are very helpful, but it always helps to know what you're there for.

3. Ask for a price match

Have you been doing your research first, like mentioned in the previous bullet, and found the same item available at a lower price?

You can find more about the Best Buy Price Match Gauarantee here.

It basically comes down to this:

  • the products must be identical, same brand, model number, color, etc.
  • it must be immediately available at a qualifying retailer, or a local competitor

They match the prices of:

  • local retail competitors (including their online prices!)
  • these online retailers: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, HP.com and TigerDirect.com.

They have an ever-changing list of exclusions, which you can find here.

4. Get free in-store pickup

Stop paying any shipping costs by picking up your online order for FREE at your nearest Best Buy. Do you ride by a Best Buy every day on your daily commute? Then just make a small detour, and pick up your Best Buy orders for free.

If an item you’re looking to buy is out of stock at your local store but is available online, you can have it shipped to your local store for free.

You could also choose to have something sent to a store closer to a friend or family member for free.

5. Use coupons

Couponing is a great way to save a lot of money while shopping at Best Buy.

You probably already know all about couponing, but if you're looking to get started with couponing, we recommend the Krazy Coupon Lady

6. Go for an Open Box Deal

An open box item has been previously purchased and then returned. You can find big savings and incredible deals on open box electronics like TVs, laptops, smart watches, and smart phones!

And don't worry, Best Buy tests all Open Box Deals rigorously!

7. Buy refurbished electronics

Another option is to buy items that have been refurbished. Refurbished products are tested for functionality and defects before they are sold again.

They are repaired by the original manufacturer and resold, so it's basically like buying something new.

8. Shop the Best Buy Black Friday Sales in... July?!

In addition to the regular Black Friday Sale in November, Best Buy also runs a Black Friday in July Sale! It’s an epic event featuring some of the best deals of the year.

9. Get college student discounts

With the help of BeBuWa you'll find the best moments to buy certain items.

Buy Christmas decoration after early in the year.

BBQs and inflatable pools are cheaper in the off-season, so mostly in autumn and winter.

Fitness appliances are most of the time more expensive right after New Year, as a lot of people have good intentions to lose weight that year.

With BeBuWa you see right this!

12. Check the price online -- before going to the store

If the online prices are cheaper than the in-store prices, ask for a price match.

13. Rummage through the Best Buy DVD & BluRay bins

14. Gamers, watch out for games bundles!

To get a game deal, watch for bundle offers. They often bundle a console with one or more games or multiple games at once, for a good deal!

15. Price Tag hacks

This one's actually kind a of a real hack.

When you're in a store, check the price tags and take these tricks into account:

  • price ends in .92: One-time drop that is at or below Best Buy’s cost. Grab it!
  • price ends in .96: Price adjustment to match a competitor.
  • price has a “C” on it: Look for the C in the lower right-hand corner. That means it is on clearance and no longer stocked.

16. Shop at Best Buy Outlets

There are only 15 Best Buy Outlets at the time of writing, so you have to check if there's one near to you.

At these Best Buy Outlet Stores you can only find refurbished and Open Box products. Basically all products at these stores are 40% off.

17. Save up to 25% for a floor model TV or kitchen appliance

Ask for an extra 25% discount when purchasing a floor-model TV. You’ll have better luck if the floor model is already for sale, because it means they’re ready to get that thing outta there.

18. Keep up to date with Best Buy's "Deal of the Day" by following them on Twitter

Find the Best Buy “Deal of the Day” on the Best Buy Deals Twitter page.

19. Red bar on price tags equals temporary deal!
